The HR Business Partner is responsible for utilizing HR expertise and strong business acumen to provide strategic perspective in solving people related challenges across the organization. This role drives consistent application of best practices through collaboration with internal teams and management, serving as a trusted advisor for various initiatives and challenges. This role directly manages the Volunteer Department, while supporting the human capital needs of leaders across Michigan Humane.

Responsibilities:
  • Serve as primary contact for both managers and staff for employee relations issues, resolving conflict and conducting thorough investigations as needed.
  • Work with VP, Organizational Development and facility management to identify talent management needs and priorities, playing an active role in talent reviews and succession planning.
  • Partner with Michigan Humane management to provide consulting on a variety of topics, including employee relations, performance management, change management, staff engagement, workforce planning and overall talent management.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships at all levels across the organization
  • Monitor and analyze data and trends to identify areas of opportunity and challenges to be addressed.
  • Identify employee engagement needs and strategize solutions across the organization.
  • Conduct exit interviews, addressing issues and analyzing trends in exit data.
  • Identify staff and management training needs, creating training materials, coordinating and supporting training initiatives as needed.
  • Create, revise and interpret HR and organizational policies, providing guidance and training to management and staff, as needed.
  • Stay up to date on HR trends and legislation, providing recommendations and guidance as appropriate.
  • Actively support team and organizational change initiatives.
  • Oversee Volunteer Department, providing guidance on strategy, budget creation, and decision-making in volunteer programs.
  • Assist and/or lead HR related projects
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in HR Management, Organizational Psychology or a similar field of study preferred
  • 5+ years of human resources experience
  • Exceptional written, verbal and presentation skills
  • Microsoft Office, including MS Word and Excel
  • PHR or SPHR Certification Preferred
