This experience has been truly humbling and enlightening. While navigating the shift in leadership traits demanded especially in the IT sector. Coming from Nigeria to study in the United Kingdom, I found myself immersed in an environment that emphasized the fusion of authentic leadership, framework-based practices, and socially driven approaches approach to leadership.
I discovered the power of authentic leadership, which required introspection and a deep understanding of my own values and beliefs. It was a journey of self-discovery, as I explored how my experiences and cultural background could contribute to shaping my leadership style. I learned that embracing vulnerability and openly sharing my strengths and weaknesses fostered trust and encouraged others to bring their authentic selves to the workplace.
I realized that the traditional leadership approach I had experienced in Nigeria was undergoing a profound transformation in the IT sector. Gone were the days of rigid hierarchies and command-and-control leadership styles. Instead, a new paradigm was emerging, one that celebrated authenticity, transparency, and a genuine connection with the people we lead.
The fusion of framework-based and socially driven leadership became a cornerstone of my MBA experience. The framework’s structured approach allowed me to navigate complex challenges with clarity and purpose. Simultaneously, the socially driven aspect emphasized empathy, active listening, and building meaningful relationships with my peers and faculty. This combination created a dynamic environment where diverse perspectives were valued, and collaboration thrived.
As I reflect on my journey, I realize the new generation of professionals seeks leaders who prioritize their growth and development, fostering a culture of trust, inclusivity, and innovation. Authentic leaders who understand the importance of balancing structure and support are now at the forefront of attracting and retaining top talent.
