Law of Accelerating Returns: Change is the New Superpower

The speed at which innovation is occurring is so rapid that it is creating competitive pressure on businesses from places they could never have imagined even a decade ago. The level of connectedness required today means traditional, siloed, and command-and-control cultures can’t keep pace and connect the dots fast enough to support ever-changing customer needs.

The Law of Accelerating Returns predicts the exponential growth of technology and its impact on society. Coined by futurist Ray Kurzweil, this law states that the rate of technological progress doubles approximately every year and a half, leading to a constant acceleration in innovation. This acceleration is evident in the speed of change that we are experiencing today, which is outpacing anything that we have ever witnessed in history.

According to a recent survey, over 90% of executives grapple with increasing volatility in their markets, but only about a fifth believe they understand the best ways to achieve agility and innovation. The winners in this environment will be those who can reliably and repeatedly change, at pace and at scale.

The exponential growth of technology means that we are on the cusp of breakthroughs in fields such as artificial intelligence, robotics, and biotechnology that will fundamentally transform our world. We are already seeing the impact of these technologies in areas such as healthcare, where AI-powered diagnostics are becoming increasingly common, and in transportation, where autonomous vehicles are poised to revolutionize how we move around.

There are a lot of questions about the future of work and the potential for inequality. As technology advances at an ever-faster pace, it is likely to displace many jobs, particularly those that involve routine or repetitive tasks. This displacement could exacerbate existing inequalities and create new ones, as those with the skills to thrive in a rapidly changing environment are likely to benefit at the expense of those who are left behind.

To succeed, individuals and organizations must embrace change and continually adapt to the accelerating pace of innovation. The winners will be those who can navigate this new landscape and leverage technology to create new opportunities and drive progress.

If it’s fast and cheap, it will never be good. If it’s cheap and good, it will never work out quickly. And if it is good and fast, it will never come cheap. But remember: of the three you still have to always choose two.

Think about the content that you want to invest in a created object, and only then will form. The thing is your spirit. A spirit unlike forms hard copy.

I love the feel and sophistication of its superiority. I like people with a keen mind and at the same time easy to talk to.
